Duration of therapy

Therapy for complicated intra-abdominal infections should be continued till signs of infection have settled.

3-4 days
  • Acute stomach and proximal jejunal perforations without malignancy receiving intervention for source control within 24 hours
  • Bowel injury due to trauma that are repaired within 12 hours, acute appendicitis sans abscess, perforation or peritonitis

10-14 days
  • For healthcare associated infections, particularly with carbapenem resistant organisms, assuming adequate source control and resolution of clinical symptoms and signs.
